Date: 12/10/2023

Time: 11:00 am

Location: online

Join Monika Dolbniak and Caroline Coyne, recipients of the SDC Bursary scheme as they each talk about their work and how they used the bursary to further their understanding and enable their creative practice to flourish.

Caroline Coyne received funding from the SDC for her final year project based on sustainability. Her medium was knitwear which she used to portray NASA’s real data temperature anomaly data. She incorporated this through bar charts, colour changing yarn, binary data and spikes.

Throughout her final year project she explored how thermochromic materials interact with the wearer and how this would be conversational pieces to initiate conversations around sustainability.

In this webinar Caroline covers  ways of incorporating data into knitwear through colour and texture changes as well as how sustainability inspired her project.

Monika Dolbniak,

The “Sensory Storytelling” is a collaborative research project conducted with a group of 12 adult autistic students from the Share Community in London. The project focused on studying participants’ sensory preferences within an educational environment and aimed to collectively design school decoration elements that would improve students’ well-being and help them manage stress through multisensory therapy and stimulation. The project included a wide range of workshops and testing sessions with students and teachers to evaluate common communication and co-design methods used in creating sensory-friendly spaces.

The presentation will include documentation of the conducted workshops; the outcome of the workshops- therapeutic textile objects; and students’ artistic works, which ultimately became unique artworks visualizing the group’s sensory identity

This webinar will be of particular interest to students wishing to take advantage of the SDC Bursary Scheme, for further details see https://sdc.org.uk/colour-education/bursaries/

The presentation is followed by a Q&A.

This is one of a series of webinars covering all aspects of textiles and coloration.

Of general interest they also provide SDC recognised CPD hours and certification
